The history of India’s revolutionary agricultural transformation is often referred to as a story of resurgence and resilience. But an often invisible protagonist of that story is India’s female farmer.
Migration of men to the urban centres, inflation, and increasing number of widowed farmers have all led to the feminisation of the Indian agriculture over this past decade. Today women in agriculture, some as cultivators and most as labourers, are more in number than men in rural India.
