The lack of women in technology is a well-documented issue. In the United States, women account for only about 25% of computer and mathematical occupations, and only about 16% of engineering jobs. Worse still, women hold only 5% of leadership positions in the tech industry. Clearly the industry has a long way to go.
I recently sat down with Michelle Gates, VP of Human Resources for Akamai, to discuss gender equality and get her advice for women seeking leadership roles in technology. We talked about some of the unique challenges many women face like balancing personal life and work life, and rearing children while pursuing a career.
