More than one lakh recognised startups in the country have at least one woman director or partner, according to data shared in Parliament. The figure offers one of the clearest official snapshots yet of how women are becoming a visible and growing force in India’s entrepreneurial landscape.
As of January 31, 2026, a total of 2,12,283 entities had been recognised as startups by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Out of these, 1,02,054 startups had at least one woman director or partner, based on information provided by Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada in the Lok Sabha.
