St. Vincent Pallotti High School has adopted a new leadership structure with separate principal and president roles, a major change for the 105-year-old private Catholic school.

Jeffrey Palumbo, who held both offices for the past 14 years, is president under the new structure, while assistant principal Catherine Edwards has been promoted to principal. Edwards is the first female layperson [someone who is not a member of the clergy] to serve as principal of Pallotti High School.

“I’m going to handle the day to day,” Edwards said. “And I’m going to ask him to go out and fundraise to support what we’re doing here.”

Palumbo said it was time for a change in the school’s leadership. 

“What we have been doing is not the traditional leadership structure,” he said. “I was president-principal for 14 years, and it’s time for some new energy and new ideas.”
