MoWA promotes women’s leadership in local administration

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs hosted a national forum on Wednesday under the theme “Women’s Leadership in Local Administration” to seek support from relevant institutions and partners in promoting gender equality and empowering women at the leadership level.

According to the ministry, the event aimed to promote gender equality and enhance women’s participation in leadership and decision-making within local administration.

The forum took place at the Sun and Moon Hotel in Phnom Penh with 325 participants in attendance, including female members of the National Assembly, Senate, senior ministers, and female ministers; the secretary of state and undersecretaries of state of line ministries; the National Council of Cambodia for Women; female envoys from embassies and consulates; development partners; civil society organisations; the private sector; research institutions; and university students.

Men Sam An, a member of the Supreme Privy Council of the King, expressed her support for the event, which reflects the government’s commitment to promoting women’s and girls’ leadership at the sub-national level, particularly at the commune level.

She also highlighted the discussion in the forum to explore the strategies and solutions for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls at all levels.
