Professor Mary Okwakol sat reading an article that really upset her. She had always known women’s representation in higher education leadership in Uganda (and generally the East African region) was meagre, but this was miserably low – bordering on non-existent.
The 2017 article by Dr Florence Nakamanya and others indicated Uganda had just three female vice-chancellors in its more than 50 universities.
