Why don’t women leaders do strategy? Asks Vivienne Porritt, the co-founder and Strategic Leader of WomenEd. Having just read Characterizing the Gap Between Strategy and Implementation, we converse on the sad fact, that with too many white men in leadership positions, the notion is often accepted as factual. Porritt explains, “to me, the images and authors tell me why strategic leadership often fails: of the 20 people who contributed, 18 are men, and two are women.” While we know there are fewer women leading organizations within most industries, Porritt and I agree that the paucity of women in this valuable text on strategic leadership seems significant, especially so, given that Kamala Harris yesterday became the first woman, the first African American, and the first Indian American to serve the position of vice-president.
