You may have noticed the current trend for praising female leaders for their handling of the corona virus crisis. Around the globe, Jacinda Ardern, Angela Merkel and Tsai Ing-wen have been praised for their empathy, quiet resilience and communication skills. The media has jumped on this click-worthy theme. As a woman it is tempting to take the praise and not think too deeply about what is being said here, but as a psychologist who believes in the importance of evidenced based reasoning I must object.
