New Zealand has its third female prime minister, something our country can be proud of, but before Jacinda Ardern there were other women fighting for the right to hold the top spot.
Women have headed up the governments of a range of countries across the globe, from Sri Lanka and Pakistan to Britain and Norway.
Some have earned their reputation as “strong and determined” leaders like “Iron Lady” Margaret Thatcher, while others have become synonymous with women’s rights like Liberia’s Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
