CGS dialogue urges stronger political commitments to women’s leadership

The Centre for Governance Studies (CGS) held a policy dialogue titled “Women’s Leadership, Gender Equality and Political Commitments” in Dhaka, bringing together political leaders, civil society representatives, academics, lawyers and human rights activists to discuss reforms and party pledges ahead of the upcoming election.

The discussion took place on Wednesday (January 14) at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital.

CGS President Zillur Rahman said that despite women outnumbering men in Bangladesh, female leadership remains limited and political parties show a narrow approach to nominating women.

He said women’s participation in the 2024 uprising was historic, but they were not properly recognised afterwards, adding that political will was essential to advance women’s empowerment and enable women to vote independently.
