Indian Railways Sees Historic Female Leadership with 3 Senior Women Officers – Know More About Them

In a landmark development for Indian Railways, three senior women officers have assumed leadership roles in critical positions, marking a significant stride toward gender inclusivity and diversity at the highest levels of one of India’s largest public sector organisations.

The 1993 batch IPS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre, Ms Sonali Mishra has made history by becoming the first woman to be appointed Director General of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). Approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), Ms Mishra will serve in this prestigious position until her retirement on October 31, 2026. This milestone comes in the 143-year legacy of the RPF, an essential security force tasked with safeguarding railway property and passengers.
