Report says M&S, John Lewis, B&M among top retailers with strong female representation in leadership

A recent study reveals that a number of companies, including M&S, John Lewis, and B&M, have done well in terms of having women on their boards and leadership teams. According to data from the 2025 FTSE Women Leaders Review, almost 60 per cent of FTSE350 businesses are almost at the 40 per cent mark for having women in boardrooms.

B&M moved up the rankings to 57.1 per cent, while M&S achieved the goal of 60 per cent representation. Its 2023 score has increased by 19.6 per cent. Morrisons was the only other retailer to place in the top 10, with women making up precisely half of its board, while Co-op had the most percentage of women on its board (66.7 per cent) among the 50 biggest private companies in the UK.

The percentage of women in leadership roles, which was 35.3 per cent of FTSE350 businesses in 2024, showed a modest decline in representation. With women in 54 per cent of its leadership positions, M&S was the FTSE100’s top-performing retailer.
