Women have now made significant progress in the workplace, being widely recognized for their work and celebrated as leaders for their achievements. While this progress bodes well for a more equitable workplace environment, obstacles are still a common experience for women in leadership roles.
From feeling undervalued, overlooked and unable to get ahead, these are just a few challenges female professionals face when attempting to advance their careers and move up the corporate ladder. Below, 20 Forbes Business Council members offer advice to help aspiring women leaders overcome career obstacles.
1. Focus On Shifting The System
Bias, not brilliance, often blocks women’s advancement. Research shows women are twice as likely to have their competence questioned. My advice is to shift the system, not yourself. Advocate for clear criteria in promotions, name unseen labor and challenge “culture fit” language.
