Promoting female leadership in the geospatial sector is crucial to achieving gender equality and maximizing the human and technological potential of the field. UN-GGIM: Americas reaffirms its commitment to initiatives that recognize and empower the role of women in geospatial information management.
Women, girls, and adolescents represent half of the global population, and their empowerment is crucial for sustainable development and gender equality. While female empowerment fosters innovation and economic growth, gender inequality persists, limiting the rights and opportunities of women and girls. According to the 2023 SDG Report, progress towards gender equality (SDG 5) is limited, with only 15.4% of indicators on track. If this pace continues, it is estimated that it will take 140 years to achieve equitable representation of women in leadership positions in the workforce.
