A new chapter for Sephora begins as Artemis Patrick takes over as the new CEO of Sephora North America which has been under the leadership of Jean-André Rougeot for the past five years. Patrick has been with Sephora for the past 18 years and was named President of Sephora North America in October of 2023 with the full intention of taking over as CEO in April 2024. Patrick is the first female CEO of Sephora North American in the company’s history. In an interview, Patrick talked about her humble beginnings which have informed her current leadership style, and discussed her focus coming into her new role.

Inclusive Leadership Style Derived From Humble Beginnings

Patrick was born in Iran and spent her early childhood there. However, during the Iranian revolution in 1979, her family had to escape from Iran. Patrick’s father was a pilot for the Shah of Iran so the family had no choice but to leave. Patrick discussed how difficult it was to leave her country suddenly and come to America without knowing any English. After arriving in America, her mother went back to Iran to visit her family and was then unable to get back out of the country because of the tensions triggered by the Iran hostage crisis.
