75% Of U.S. Women Execs Have Impostor Syndrome—How To Destroy It

We all experience periods in our careers where we doubt our abilities and feel unworthy to fill a role. But it turns out that women are the most susceptible to experiencing these feelings, and this emotion can effectively be summed up in two words: impostor syndrome. Impostor syndrome, also referred to as self-doubt, is something that many female executives, managers, and high-performers aspiring to management and leadership roles, face on a regular basis.

I have personally observed this in corporate career coaching, particularly over the last five years, where nearly every woman in or aspiring to leadership roles has told me they experience fear of not being deserving enough for a promotion, or they downplay their achievements. Downplaying their achievements makes it difficult for them to sell themselves effectively so they can land more senior roles that they deserve.
