Five-year immigration halt will let US catch breath

The immigration problem will not go away by itself and, so far, our attempts to solve it have failed.

Meanwhile, it is costing the U.S. billions of dollars annually that could better be spent on more important things, like improving our education system, helping the homeless and a host of others.

My solution is to stop all immigration for five years. Close our borders completely for everyone except business visitors, tourists, and visiting relatives and friends. The maximum visa would allow visitors 90 days and back they go. Give us a chance to catch our breath, save a ton of money and help those already here a little more.

There is no downside to this plan, and, hopefully, those trying to flee their birthplace will spend some time making it better.

The days of “give me your tired, your poor” are over. Try “give me your well-educated and productive” for a welcome change.
