Who Thinks Women Might Make Better CEOs?

In 2018, if your name was John, you were 3.27% of the US population; if you were a woman, you were 50%. And here’s another fun fact: among Fortune 500 CEOs, women only recently outnumbered men named John.

Women overtaking Johns at the CEO level may be the fun fact of the year. And for the first time, women are also leading over 10% of Fortune 500 companies. But biases against women are still in full swing. 90% of men and women cling to them. More than 4 out of 10 think men are the better choice for leadership positions.

Once again, something is shaking up our gender assumptions. Social and emotional characteristics that we’ve been comfortable ascribing to women are now in high demand among executive leaders. There is realization and resistance as many ask “do women make better CEOs?”
